Visual Metaphors for the BCS, Volume One

By Spencer Hall

The combined scores for the three BCS games thus far: Victors 138, Losers 65. Two games to go to equalize those sums somewhat, but to this point the competition has been mediocre at best. There's tons of blame to throw around here: perhaps we blame the Rose Bowl for taking tradition over competitive value in snatching Illinois for the Rose instead of Georgia, or perhaps you turn some scrutiny on the Sugar for inviting Hawaii in the first place when their strength of schedule was so very, very weak. Or maybe we can just all blame FOX for this and putting Thom Brennaman in the booth to call games.

Instead of playing this game, I'd like to be a little more artistic and show you my favorite way of looking at this: visual metaphor.

This pic comes from a from a real, untouched photo from the Daily Mail. You wonder why you didn't get into the sunny, rewarding world of shark research? Situations like these, that's why.
