Back off, troglodytes: We come not to discuss politics, but sports, so check the pitchforks and torches at the door. It just so happens that the men and women who run for political office in this country also happen to be sports fans, and in many cases very knowledgeable ones. For example, Richard Nixon called Redskins head coach George Allen frequently during his Presidency, even legendarily suggesting the 'Skins run a reverse to catch the opposition off guard. The play failed, proving that Nixon's trick plays never, ever turned out well. (Note "legendarily"; George Allen's son, Senator George Allen, denies it happened.)
Our current pair of aspiring government servants, Senators McCain and Obama, both have their pet projects. We're guessing a McCain presidency would see the Navy football team adopted as the unofficial national college football squad since McCain, an Annapolis grad, has addressed the team prior to the Army-Navy game.
Obama, too, is a rabid sports fan, and has definite opinions ... like how to solve college football's postseason foibles once and for all.
He's a playoff guy. Chris Berman says, "You could probably make that happen," further proving Chris Berman has no idea what he's talking about at any point. The President is nothing compared to the Big Ten commissioner and the men in the Rose Bowl jackets, who don't answer to God, logic, or some guy with a measly Presidential Seal and a Secret Service detail.

It might be cool to have an 8 team playoff in college football, but I fear Obama would mandate that the teams ranked 60 thru 67th participate, with the top ranked teams in the land donating to make it happen.

Whether a playoff system is needed or not, what is definitely NOT needed is any government influence, pressure, or mandates in either direction. If you think the BCS process is muddled, how about fifty different ways to run, regulate, validate elections? No, what we have now may not be perfect, but there is more than enough excitement, energy and interest by the fans.

ha ha – yeah, then after the teams played and the cash was awarded, Obama would require the money be given to the teams who had the weakest SOS. ha ha ha! Thank GOODNESS that the government will never be involved in any of this. It’s like our own little safe "happy place" where the idiots cannot get to us.

You political masterminds do realize that no part of Obama’s plan is to take money directly (or indirectly, really) from the richest people and hand it to the poor, right? He is going to give more money to the less-wealthy by simply not taking as much from them in the first place.
You’ll learn more about this over the next four years …

WHAT???!!!
Cottram:
(IF you are being serious) You sir, are terribly naive and misguided! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! If you actually believe your first and second sentences (that I quoted above), you shouldn’t be voting! I genuinely hope that you wrote those sentences in ‘jest’ because they are factually INCORRECT! TERRIBLY factually incorrect.
Of course, as an apparent Obama supporter, you’re also possibly the one who removed my original post — the first one that was posted in response to the story. It was COMPLETELY factual, unlike your own featured commentary!
Gotta love the ‘free speech!’ I guess this blog is governed by the old liberal way: "Free speech…for all who agree.."???
Know this: When Obama’s ‘energy policy’ increases the cost of YOUR electric bill MULTI-fold, you’ll have only you and others like you to blame. The problem with that is that YOUR ignorance — and those like you — will co$t those of us who are properly informed, as well.
Laugh now; when he puts his BASELESS ‘carbon tax’ on everything, just rememer that I told you so. If you’re not aware that he is planning on doing that, you’re (again) poorly informed.
Obama wants a CFB playoff? That forces me to re-think my stance; there must be something that I missed while doing my diligence on the matter. I’ve always wanted a playoff but am now forced to re-examine the issue based upon his endorsement.
Let’s all just hope that he doesn’t do too much damage to the country in four years. Hopefully he’ll be succeeded by a Republican — someone who will clean up the mess that he makes during his tenure.
Get informed next time Cottram! Your statements indicate that you are NOT well-informed right now.
Go Gators! Go USA!

I don’t pay for electricity, so I’m good.
PS. I did vote. And my guy won. Enjoy the next eight years of Obama, buddy.

Debate! Debate! Debate!
I want a town-hall meeting debate between akitagator and "Cmottram!"
Topics include: Carbon Taxes, Multi-folds (I personally preferred Trapper-Keepers), and bold-faced type.
This winner gets to decide if Obama is qualified to say that the bowl system needs to be fixed or not.

and then Mccain started droning on about performance enhancing drugs and I almost fell asleep. At least Obama is current or maybe its just because he actually uses the internet.

"At least Obama is current or maybe its just because he actually uses the internet."
Slang…do you realize just how (and why) offensive that statement is? Obviously not!
If you were properly informed, you would KNOW why John McCain doesn’t use the internet!
FYI: The reason why McCain doesn’t use the internet is because HE CAN’T! Because of the torture he suffered at the hands of the Viet Cong in a prison camp for 6 years, he is unable to sit at a keyboard and type! (and yes, that’s TRUE!)
Unlike Obama, McCain fought for his country — with GREAT honor, I might add. He’s a genuine American hero.
It’s unfortunate that Obama supporters like you are so poorly informed. Of course, if you were informed, you wouldn’t have voted for Obama — not a chance.
So, go ahead and make fun of McCain — a man so badly beaten and tortured as a war prisoner that he can’t even type at a keyboard. Figures!

Cottram said:
"PS. I did vote. And my guy won. Enjoy the next eight years of Obama, buddy."
(Ahem) Correction — 4 years.
I can assure you that after his own supporters — like you and Slang — see what his socialistic policies do to this country, even you two will not be voting for him next time.
The country will be ‘crying’ for a Republican to come in an take over — bank on it. The Republican nominee will beat Obama in a landslide in 2012 as a direct result of how many people will realize what a HORRIBLE mistake it was voting him in office.
We had better pray that he doesn’t decimate the military (as he has promised to do) and bankrupt the coal industry (as he has promised).
Lastly, you say you don’t use electricity and are, therefore, not bothered by higher costs? Sorry, my friend, his proposed carbon tax will affect ALL carbon producing foms of energy — in the form of taxes. Everything from barbecues to mowers to cars will be taxed.
If you don’t KNOW that he intends to do that, you’re AGAIN poorly informed.
Translation: EVERYTHING in the country will be more expensive because of the need to offset the (unfounded) carbon tax. Our local utility company has already estimated a 200% increase in electric bills here within the next 18 months, due to his policies! (yep, that’s true)
Obama’s stance on CFB playoff is one of the few things that I’ve heard him say that’s worth a dime. At least he can get something right.

Alright, man. We get it: You don’t like Obama. Let it go.

I’m all for a playoff in college football. If it takes an act by President Obama, then so be it. Every other damn major sport in this country has a playoff and decides it on the field. Why not college football? I’m tired of these polls and the BCS crap. Let these teams decide it on the field and thats it.
Why does this country have the problems it does? Greed, Greed, and more Greed. Companies have to much say in who or how people should get a house, car, loans, schooling, etc.. Now we must bail out banks, insurance, auto, and whomever else looked the other way when they were handing out loans and credit to people and business’s who really couldn’t afford it the first place.
So now the ESPN’s and FOX’s are going to be wondering why all those advertising dollars are drying up and stadiums are no longer being filled and it’s because of the GREED and lack of priorities this country and it’s major companies have shown. All this GREED has a ripple effect on everything and everyday life for many Americans. Why should this effect our escape of everyday life and the thing we look forward to every Saturday in the fall? Finally we have a guy who gets it and hopefully he can get the ball rolling on a playoff in college football and more important get this country turned around and get back to priorities in which this country was built on, hardwork and family, not BMW’s and Flat screen TV’s.

As for a college football playoff, it really doesn’t matter to me. My team has benefitted and been burned by the current system. The college regular season is exciting just because every game means so much. The important thing to realize is that, beyond the football season itself (and those who don’t have much going on beyond face paint tailgate parties), this doesn’t matter on the world stage. The last thing we need is government interference into this. They don’t run much efficiently, and once you let them intrude, they’ll find something else to ‘regulate/mandate’.
I could go on and on with political jabs and such, but won’t……yet anyway.
Let the teams play it on the field, and whoever gets to the big game-so be it.

I knew this thread would turn political. It had to. And, like always, most participants are really good at displaying how easily they are controlled. Never, ever understand the ability of political and corporate elites to control the masses for their own benefit.
Disagree on politics, religion, culture, gay marriage, whatever…just keep consuming…that’s all those in power want you to do.
I expect Akitagator to not understand any of this, which only solidifies my point.
by mcstewey on Nov 8, 2008 2:11 PM EST reply actions
cmottram – what? You bring up the fight and introduce Obama’s politics in this thread and when Akita kicks your butt in the debate you tell him to drop it? Unbelievable.
by GEAUX_LSU_#1 on Nov 8, 2008 11:27 PM EST reply actions
Akitagator is right. Unemployment will also likely go up because of higher taxes on corporations and people in the higher tax bracket.
It worries me when a "president elect" is talking about college football playoffs and which brand of dog to get for his kids, and not the important issues(economy, terrorism, etc.)
by buckeyedude42 on Nov 9, 2008 2:19 AM EST reply actions
By the way, I have a feeling that if Obama "mandated" College football "playoffs," there would be NO LOSERS. Everybody wins(everybody is equal) under Barack’s CFB "playoff."
And all 194 colleges that have teams would go to a bowl game, paid for and sponsored by the federal gubment.
I bet you’re sorry you ever brought up Obama, aren’t you Spencer?
