The Rams and Seahawks, with their combined four wins, played each other last Sunday. And somebody had to call the play-by-play for that game. The man assigned to take on this dirty job was FOX’s Matt Vasgersian, who, after doing four Rams games this season, has become quite familiar with turd polishing:
"We've had plenty of Lions and Chiefs and Raiders games, too, the last couple of years, so we know how to polish up a turd pretty good,'' he said. [See: dancing robots.] ...Alright, so the Rams are a turd of a team playing in a dreary dome and their fans have no energy. This comes after Vasgersian, while doing play-by-play for the Padres in St. Louis in ‘07, said Cardinals fans should “get in their El Caminos and drive back to the Ozarks.” This is just a guess, but I’m starting to think that maybe this guy doesn’t like the city of St. Louis very much.
"[The Edward Jones Dome] is pretty dreary, man,'' he said. "That's a little more trouble than having them on the road, because the building stinks and there's just no energy in there. That's one of those things you look at and go, 'Oh man, are we the Z crew?'"
Luckily for Vasgersian, he won’t be doing the Rams-49ers donnybrook this weekend. Sam Rosen earned that great honor, to which he responded, “Who did I tick off to get this game?”

THAT is the game they should have tried Dennis Miller out on.

As a Padre fan, I loved listening to Matt and his partner in the booth, Mark "Mudcat" Grant. They were knowledgeable, clever, funny, and honest about the play in front of them, even if it meant saying that the home team stunk. I’ll miss Matt, and I wish him well in his new job.
