He should get suspended at least for a few games. His action was more damaging then Avery words. He beat up someone way out of NHL standards and that is worst then verbally attacking someone oustside of the ice. He dosen’t deserve royal treatment only because he is Sid the Kid (best player in the NHL). Let him pay for what he has done especially since Avery got busted for 6+ games.

Welcome to full contact sports. I guarantee no one on youtube posted the whole video, because slanting the story this way makes it news. Yes Crosby punched him in the buttocks. Big Deal. It’s nearly impossible to take an injury that way with the pads and his gloves. More like a hard shove. The player being "attacked" began with hooking Crosby in the cup/crotch area pretty hard. That’s why the other penguin came to his aid. I’d punch whatever’s available too, but gloves on is no more than a tap unless it’s in the face.
Yes, Zero, Avery learned everything he knows from Crosby’s example. The man has more class than a university, and I don’t even consider him in my top 5 players. But, being a rangers fan, I can see how you might defend Avery by going after someone like Crosby. I mean, he doesn’t even go looking for attention, deflects praise onto his teammates, and generally stays out of things off the ice. On it, he defends himself and his teammates. Yep, they’re the same. Not.

I agree with Agent Zero, but unfortunately that will never happen. Bettman is a dweeb who will never punish Sid the Kid because he recognizes his worth to the league in revenue and advertising terms. A guy like Sean Avery though, a guy Bettman clearly dislikes, is free for Bettman to go off on unnecessarily.

Snyper: Are you really trying to rationalize punching another man in the balls? I’m pretty sure that’s never, ever acceptable, no matter what. It’s like a manlaw, or something.

Well he’s a bitch. And he’s been a bitch his entire time in the league.
At least Hartnell will fight someone after he cheap shots them.

Exactly,Bailey that what I mean you cant suspend the most important player that every fan knows without causing a bad rep for Sid. Bettman wont suspend Crosby for that reason and that the NHL would get more unwanted attention that it already has.

For Snyper: Why can’t Sid the Kid break up the fight? That would give more respect for the kid and be one stop closer to being a player that everyone respects. One perfect example is Derek Jeter. Everybody respects him and his is one of the most likeable guys in the sports world. He shows class and respects everybody and he is eveybody’s role model for that reason. Even Red Sox fans have respect for the way Jeter plays the game.

Crosby is the biggest bitch in the NHL. If he wasn’t the face of the league he would be suspended. He should be. He likes to think he is tough but everyone knows that if he took off the gloves with 95% of the league he would get spanked. Every time I see this guy he’s playing like a woman.

Snyper did you and I watch the same sequence of video? In any clip Ive seen of it nowhere is a hook to the groin of Crosby seen. Reasoner got dumped into the back of Orpiks legs, Orpik responded and a scrum ensued. Crosby decided to be a good teammate and jump into the scrum as well which brought Valabik in. Letang jumped on Valabik and pulled him from the pile. At which point Crosby gets up, punches Valabik in the back of the head, the side and twice in the groin, all while Valabik is being held down.
Nowhere is a shot of Valabik hooking Crosby in the groin hard seen. Crosby overreacted to someone grabbing him in a scrum. Tryibng to defend this in any way shape or form is bad. Fact is Crosby overreacted went after a guy being held down, punching him multiple times until the ref grabs him and all over nothing. And nothing is said or done about it because of Crosby being the poster boy.
