UVA's Al Groh Is Icy, Son

Nepotism in college football may still be a problem, but not at UVA.

Facing staff evaluation after a 104th ranked offense limped into the offseason, Al Groh decided to fire his offensive coordinator for poor performance. Is this a big deal? Of course, as your offensive coordinator in college is heavily involved in convincing certain players to come to your school in addition to their responsibilities getting the team to score points. Firing offensive staff is always a big deal, and if you doubt this, ask the suddenly very available Tommy Tuberville about the matter.

Is this a BIG deal? Double yes, when the guy you're firing is your very own son. Mike Groh, son of Al Groh, is being fired by his dad from the University of Virginia after dismal results as the play-caller for the Cavaliers. I can only imagine that the whole thing happened Fredo-style, with Groh looking quietly out on the lake while his henchmen took Mike out in the canoe to "have a little talk."

If you doubt that Al Groh is gangsta, well, you know now. He's icy and you better have his money, or it's dirt nap time for you -- even if you happen to be flesh and blood.

Al Groh should go the extra mile and fire himself.
