Super Bowl Adstravaganza: Timberlake Gets Racked

By Spencer Hall

Do you, like millions of Americans, crave the sight of celebrities being hit in the testicles? Of course you do. This is something people at Pepsi understand all too well, judging from their early release of the Justin Timberlake-fueled "Magnetic Attraction" ad.

Watch, and we'll show you the key elements of any modern Superbowl Ad afterwards.

Catch all of them? They include:

1. Crotch shots. Someone must get hit in the crotch. Timberlake overstuffs the required crotch shot with not one, not two, but three direct hits to the Timberlake family jewels. Pepsi doubled down on the surefire hits in many categories here, but this is a truly essential category.

2.CGI effects. Again, Pepsi goes overkill in this department, too, flinging Timberlake around with zillions of dollars' worth of CGI technology.

3. A "just us dudes" attitude. It's important that advertising portray male stars as being "just us dudes" type of dudes, especially if they're considered a bit too "pop" as Timberlake is. Thus the intro conversation with the boys, the last-minute cool moment undermined by the car-doorknockout...he's just like you, man, chillin' on the couch with a beer.

Of course, JT doesn't drink beer, because carbs make you fat, fattie. But other than that--total regular guy, man.

4. Women in bathing suits. Check.

5. Random celeb cameos. All over the place here: Tony Romo, Andy Samberg in a wig brushing his "hair" while mooning over pics of Timberlake...all slyly placed, of course.

6. Shameless synergy? Double-check. Not only is Timberlake plugging Pepsi Stuff, Pepsi's rewards program offering free mp3s of his music in exchange for Pepsi points, the restaurant features Timberlake's New York BBQ restaurant Southern Hospitality in the opening scene.
