SO True KD! good work… I’m not sure what you’re interview processes have been like in your career, but I know having been at a college and having been on the other side of the table and apart of MANY committees to hire coaches as well as other positions, it’s truly amazing that any entity ever hires anyone good, coaches or otherwise, as their are sparingly few people out there that really know what to do when hiring people… I attribute this to the promoting through past performance, which sounds good but is really stupid in some basic manageent ways. Who is always the sales manager of any sales team? the guy who sold the most 3-5 years ago, and was promoted… does that mean he can manage people or hire people or coach people? hardly ever! I was on a coaching search committee once at the college and we sat four people down and came up with a bunch of criteria to select the first round of candidates off of, consisting of such hallmarks as coaching certifications, among other stupid things, and then paired down the next level of candidates off of weighted averages of the previous candidates which included a significantly higher grade for coaches with Master’s degree rather than undergrad degrees and any coaching experience or success. you see where this is going , and you can guess I am still embarassed to have been associated with such an idiotic approach to hiring a coach, however it does give a glimpse of the follishness that can go on across the interview table from good coaching candidates.
I guess the only point of all my reply is to say you are dead on in saying that inevitably there will be plenty of teams that are no better off in making coaching changes, due in part to highly flawed hiring processes such as the one I mentioned!
good work KD!

Excellent blog, KD! Great reply, str8.
I always find it amazing in how it is determined on who the next head coach/manager will be. Based on what I have read from both of you guys, there is alot of flaws in the hiring processes in all sports. I am especially disturbed by str8’s story. That was unbelievable, man. I know that had to frustrate the heck out of you, dude. Anyway, great job by both of you guys and I appreciate you guys responding to my blogs. I look forward to many more of those and the brilliant ideas that you guys have!
I’m out and I will talk at you later,
