FirstCuts: LeBron Drops Kicks, 50 Points in NYC

By Chris Littmann

Sports don't start and end with a referee's whistle. FirstCuts, a blog dedicated to sports culture, will cover everything outside the lines, from games to gear.

Not unlike Michael Jordan before him, LeBron James has a thing for New York City. Yes, the sight of Jay-Z courtside sort of terrifies Cavs fans thinking about a future where their favorite son bolts for Brooklyn in a few years, but for now he's only dedicating shoes to the city.

King James dropped 50 on the Knicks last night and also made the on-court debut for the Zoom LeBron V Yankees edition. The shoe went on sale in limited numbers at the House of Hoops in Harlem. The first person in line even scored tickets to last night's Cavs-Knicks contest.

As we detailed before, the shoe features a number of little items as a nod to the Yankees and LeBron's love for the Bronx Bombers. This isn't his first New York-themed shoe. Last season, the LeBron IV dropped in an exclusive NYC colorway featuring grafitti on the sides.

As a native of Ohio, I'll make a deal with the New Yorkers. You can keep getting the exclusive kicks, but please leave LeBron in Ohio.

Gratuitous YouTubery: Check out Top Play No. 9 from NBA TV. LeBron was even ridiculous in warm-ups.

Even with Garnett, you still put some distance between your team and mine. mofo Kovalchuk.

I’ll just bring my dog over to drop bombs in your yard. Nice runny ones.

LOL!
