"It started pretty well," police spokesman Const. Laurent Gingras told CBC News Tuesday. As expected, the majority of Habs fans are much more non-violent (they are, after all, French), and are completely embarrassed by this whole thing.
"Unfortunately, at a certain point some people gathered on Ste. Catherine Street. A couple fights broke out and police cars were also attacked at that point."
Despite increased police presence deployed to the streets before Monday night's game, rioters burnt or smashed 16 police cars as well as other vehicles, according to a preliminary police investigation.
Ten businesses were either vandalized or broken into, although Gingras said the damage was limited.

You’re wrong making this a french Canadian Thing.
When we had the nordiques, we should remember two events.
The 1st is when they were in the WHL and won the Avco cup.
People gathered, celebrated and then………returned home !
The second is when Peter Stasny got rid of the HABS on game 7th of the division semi finals in 1985 ( see video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GAIaffLaYk ), I Can tell you that people gathered at the Quebec city airport after the game and man…..we just felt like the Nordiques have just won the Stanley Cup . Once again, the atmosphere was incredible but poeple returned quietly but happily home after that.
If you remember the last time that the Habs won the Stanley Cup ( back almost 15 years ago) , It turned out in a stupid riot afterward.
So, I’ts not a frog thing mon ami, I’ts a montréal CANACHIEN FANS Thing. And it’s very fun to watch them trying to make believe that it ain’t them ….!!!! So who did it ? Was it Lee Harvey Oswald or Oussama ?
