Let’s just get this outta the way for clarity’s sake: Hank Steinbrenner is a total blowhard who seems to know nothing about anything other than how to be completely self-righteous and totally obnoxious. Kind of like his father, turned up to 11.
Unfortunately, however, no amount of hate for this man is going to make him go away for, oh I don’t know, about another 30 years or so. So we might as well get used to him spouting out completely idiotic nonsense like this:
"Mussina has got so much ability, so much smarts, but it's not easy to just flip a switch and change his style of pitching overnight. He can do the same thing as Moyer did and several others."This is ridiculous on so many levels, not the least of which being that Moyer has never changed his style of pitching. He’s always been a low 80’s, junk-throwing, finesse guy. And he’s left-handed. And he’s probably a worse pitcher at this point in his career than Moose is. Not sure why Hank would want his pitcher to change to a style that has proven less successful for Moyer.
So, of course, Mussina and all his “smarts” responded to Hank last night by allowing two runs over seven innings, and essentially shutting Hank up. Well, for one night, at least. No amount of quality starts will keep this man from tripping over his own stupidity.
Oh, and while we’re here, let’s get Joba in that rotation. Yeah, his young power arm could use the strain of 200 innings or so this season. It worked out great for Kerry Wood and Mark Prior.
