Donnie Walsh is a serious man who does serious things. So what if he might make Mark Jackson, who doesn't have any experience in any sector of coaching, the lord of the Knicks? He did the same thing for Larry Bird, and that turned out pretty awesome.
Kenny Smith confirmed Sunday that he will interview for the Knicks general manager job this week.Again, I have the utmost respect for Walsh's basketball acumen, and Smith has long wanted to work in a front office. But filling two major positions of a struggling franchise with a pair of favorite son point guards who have no track record? It sounds like some sort of McDonald's promotion, or a movie that teaches you about what really matters in life.
Smith, who attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, is scheduled to meet with Knicks president Donnie Walsh. During TNT's studio show Sunday, Smith was evasive about his interest in the Knicks but when host Ernie Johnson asked him about The News report that he would be meeting with Walsh, Smith smiled and said, "There is a possibility."
