Olympic Scorecard: BBC 1, NBC 0

NBC Sports seemingly exists only for Notre Dame football, Arena football, horse racing, and the Olympics. Sportswise, they're the Cicada network: they surface from underground for seasonal events, make a prehistoric buzzing noise, and they just as suddenly retreat back underground for another long term of rest and recuperation.

They do have the Olympics, but even then they will be trumped in their coverage by the BBC, who no matter what the Peacock Network does will have trumped them in cool points by creating their own mascot. So who, you ask, creatored the Monkey King, the BBC's own Olympic mascot? The same guys who created the quirky animated band Gorillaz.
"The idea is that you tell the entire story of Journey to the West in a two-minute opening sequence, which is basically them on their way to the Olympic stadium," says Hewlett.

So the BBC will basically have their own hyper-cool animated mascot with quirky eclectic rock soundtrack leading into the Olympics, and NBC will have Bob Costas and John Tesh. Again: trip-hop monkey king cartoon versus John Tesh announcing gymnastics. Advantage, our colonial forefathers.

NBC Sports also carries a little-known league called the NFL. Maybe someday it’ll be prominent enough to garner mention in your blog posts.

Our apologies for not mentioning their one game a week NFL coverage. It is quite substantial.
