D'Antoni Really Has Some Great Options

Some more coaching thrill and chills: D'Antoni, who isn't yet officially out at Phoenix, has been given clearance to speak with the Bulls and Knicks. I am here to report that both of these options suck.

I came to terms with the esteemed Donnie Walsh taking over the put of despair that is NYK. In the front office, especially not as the GM proper, he 's mostly in charge of altering institutional culture. The coach of that god-forsaken team, whoever he is, is supposed to give that team an immediate ethos and win games. I'm just now sure that, in either one of thise locales, D'Antoni's got the tools he needs to make an impression. Which will lead to an agonizing season or two of firesales and salary dumps, and testing out young players to the max, and possibly the degradation of Brand D'Antoni.

Let's not forget, while the year before Nash was miserable, it did feature Amare, Marion, and Joe Johnson unleashed like what, and D'Antoni assessing the possibilities. And then, the star inserted. Does New York, or even Chicago, have the patience for this? Do they have the talent to make this worthwhile? David Lee, Nate Robinson, Renaldo Balkman; Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng ... if either of these small groups glimmer hope to Coach's eyes, this process could be underway. But it seems a much worse fit than Toronto, where all the pieces are in place, or Miami, where the pieces are much, much better.
