Possibly the GOAT: Myron Cope Raps

When the great Pittsburgh broadcaster Myron Cope passed away in February, one thought went through my head: “Damn shame that crazy Yinzer didn’t create an early 90s Pirates rap set to the tune of MC Hammer’s ‘Can’t Touch This.’ Damn shame, man.” Little did I know, Cope did just that, 18 years ago:

It’s almost futile to attempt to nail down a best moment in a clip that is this outstanding, but I’m partial to about the 1:10 mark. Cope comes into the picture, flailing his arms, and just starts making some weird, drunken old man groining noise, followed by, “Ring the bell, school’s back in, suckeeeerrrrr. Schoooooooool. Ring the bell, school’s back in. Can ya dig it? Break it reeeeal down.”

This man was clearly a musical genius.
