Bradley: Thug; Hamilton: Inspirational

In case you hadn’t noticed, Milton Bradley is in the middle of a career year in Texas. He leads the A.L. in average (.333) and has a .629(!) slugging percentage to go along with 14 homers and 45 RBI. On top of that, he hasn’t been a “troublemaker” this season, as some may argue he has been in the past (I’d say those claims have been blown out of proportion, but that’s neither here nor there). So, he deserves high praise, right? Um, maybe not:

So, Josh Hamilton (white guy) should be admired by the American public for getting off the drugs, turning his life around and having a great season? OK, fair enough. But why are we supposed to not feel the same way about Bradley (black guy)? And how does this Royals announcer -- Ryan Lefebvre – come to the conclusion that Bradley (again, he would be the black guy in this discussion) “clearly has no control over himself”? Bradley hasn’t been in “trouble” since last September. And by “trouble,” I mean having his ACL torn by his own manager after an umpire instigated a fight with Bradley.

As you’d expect, Bradley was slightly upset by Lefebvre’s unjust and completely irresponsible on-air comments:

Milton Bradley stormed out of the Texas Rangers clubhouse after an 11-5 victory Wednesday night over Kansas City and bounded up four flights of stairs looking for Royals television announcer Ryan Lefebvre.

General manager Jon Daniels and manager Ron Washington were close behind and intercepted Bradley before he reached Lefebvre.

Upon returning to the clubhouse, Bradley screamed at teammates and broke down in tears.

"I'm tired of people bringing me down," Bradley said. "It wears on you. I love you guys, all you guys. I'm strong, but I'm not that strong. All I want to do is play baseball and make a better life for my kid than I had."

Man, what an out of control animal this Bradley guy is. I mean, all he wants to do is play ball and take care of his kid? That’s it? Come on, he hasn’t even overcome a nasty drug habit like America’s hero Josh Hamilton. Also, did I mention Hamilton is white and Bradley is black? I’m just sayin’.

I would be P.O’d too if the guy compared me negatively to a crackhead on air. If I had a choice between hanging out with an a-hole or a crack smoker, I’ll take the a-hole every single time. Hamilton might be an interesting story, but you shouldn’t use his example to slag guys who never even picked up the pipe to begin with. What if there were pictures of Hamilton slobbering some dealer’s junk to get a rock, would it still be a cuddly story?

Bradley’s reaction alone is proof that he hasn’t gotten contol of his temper. If he wants to change peoples perception of him he should have handled the situation differently.

Agreed, Bradley didn’t handle the situation well. But the play-by-play guy is far more in the wrong here than Bradley.

…nobody likes an a-hole. Trust me, you’ll have more fun with the crack smoker.
