Mets interim manager Jerry Manuel is already drunk on authority. Last night was his second game filling the void left when the team fired Willie Randolph in the middle of the night, and Jerry felt it prudent to lay down the law.
Jose Reyes appeared to injure his hamstring running to first, so Manuel opted to play it safe and remove him from the game. Reyes subsequently threw a fit and tossed his helmet. After the game, Manuel made it clear that he ain’t nuttin’ to [mess] wif (emphasis mine):
"I told him next time he does that I'm going to get my blade out and cut him. I'm a gangster. You go gangster on me, I'm going to have to get you. You do that again, I'm going to cut you right on the field," quipped Manuel.Promising to cut your players (literally, not just “cut” as in kick them off the team) seems like a fantastic way to get their attention. Plus, nothing motivates workers to perform like the threat of bodily harm. As I type this, there is an editor standing behind me, swinging a spiked battle flail over his head.

We need more gangster managers in baseball. How else will we equal out the number of ones that throw a hissy fit. I think cutting a player is way more effective. Ozzie has nothing on Manuel.

Anybody see the game?? I dont know what the hype is about…. Big Deal! He was mad because he got pulled from the game, what do you want him to do, cry and wave for a wheel chair?
Jose Reyes is the heart of the Mets, all you so called Mets fans out there that are sick of him can go root for the Yankees… Jerry is going to be a good replacement, he has been the only coach all year to get fired up…
I like this guy… Willy?? He is a Yankee… glad to see him go, did not like him to start with.

Jerry needs to get that blade and stick it straight up the back door of one of the Carloses, and see if maybe one of them could start playing up to the money they earn. I hated the way Willie was fired, and that he was fired. If the team starts to play better, I will feel better about the whole thing. I am a Mets fans first and foremost.
