Vandy's Foster Can't Wait to Play in the NBA

This originally appeared on the ESPN mag, but it's taken me about a day to figure out my feelings about it. And wait for it to show up on YouTube so I could embed it.

Pretty self-explanatory: It's Vanderbilt guard Shan Foster, who may or may not get drafted tomorrow, singing his heart out about how much he wants to make the league. Not in an "it's the ultimate possibility" way, but more along the lines of "the promised land is right around the corner." His optimism is uplifting, and yeah, it's funny as hell. But I can't help but feel like I'm looking in on a dream about to be crushed. And I don't know if I'm down with that kind of voyeurism.

Of course, if Foster surprises everyone, or knows something everyone else doesn't, this becomes a landmark moment in guerilla self-promotion. For now, though, it's a reminder of really, really depressing side of the draft -- for every lifelong goal achieved, there's a bunch more indefinitely deferred. By the way, Draft Express currently has him projected as a mid-second rounder.

Then again, the Brazil backpack might be a wink and nod in that direction.

Update: ESPN's version can be seen here. It's basically the same as the one above, but with less of Foster tickling the ivory.
