Manny Pacquiao, The Big Three Are Homeboys

Manny Pacquiao’s destruction of David Diaz on Saturday night to win Diaz’s WBC lightweight title was at least as thorough as the Celtics’ thrashing of the Lakers in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. At times, Pac Man seemed to be a Big Three in and of himself, a triple-headed boxing hydra with about six hands, all of them bouncing at regular intervals off of Diaz’s poor, brave, bloodied noggin.

Pacquiao is a big Celtics fan and pulled hard for them in the Finals, and so it was fitting that the men in green returned the favor this weekend and turned out in force to root for Pac Man in his debut at 135 in Vegas. After the fight they chilled with the Pac in his dressing room for a big-group photo-op, the video of which is below. Les Trois Grands are in full effect, along with Rajon Rondo and Sam Cassell who, true to form, tries to steal the show.

Note that Manny’s head is level with Garnett’s, which means that he must be standing on about thirty-nine phone books. Also note at the end of the vid that Garnett proclaims himself to be a huge Pacquiao fan. How I wish the interviewer had immediately hit him with, “Oh yeah? Name a single person besides David Diaz that he’s ever fought.” Twelve to one says the Big Ticket blanks on that one. But whatever, it was a nice moment.

I guess everything is a matter of perspective. I didn’t think Cassell did anything too outrageous to steal the show. I also have been a Pacquiao fan for years. I have watched probably all of his fights on HBO. You can label me with Garnett as I also can’t name a single person he fought before.

pAC-mAN Proved he belongs as #1 p4p…Great display of speed even though it was against a limited Diaz.
