Nike hit the media with a release late Wednesday afternoon that Hyperdunk 2015 will be available at Nike House of Hoops in New York City as well as Niketown and other select Nike retailers. While the House of Hoops release is slated for Saturday -- and ditto for NikeTown Los Angeles -- it's unclear what "other select Nike retailers" means at this point.
(GREAT SCOTT UPDATE! The actual Nike Mag worn by Michael J. Fox in Back To The Future II has made its way to eBay. Check it out, if you're up for spending more than $1,000 on one shoe.)
Hit the jump for the full news release from Nike, along with a few other release this weekend. Or skip that, and just look at our previous post with Kobe riding in the DeLorean.
In addition to mega-limited releases of the Hyperdunk 2015 this weekend, two low versions of the Jordan XX3, pictured here, will hit all of your favorite major chain retailers this weekend. The sticker price is $135 for the White/Varsity Red and White/Midnight Navy-Silver.
Nike unveils Hyperdunk 2015
The Hyperdunk, designed by Nike creative director Eric Avar, is one of the lightest and most innovative basketball footwear products Nike has ever produced. Debuting on the feet of Nike athlete Kobe Bryant on April 10th, the Hyperdunk will hit retail outlets in the US on July 27th.
While designing the Hyperdunk shoe, Avar took design inspiration from a Nike concept shoe created in the late 80’s for movie character Marty McFly [played by Michael J Fox] in the film Back to the Future II. Looking at the Hyperdunk’s overall shape, distinctive heel counter and midsole, these features all hearken back to this original concept shoe.
As part of the launch, Nike will introduce limited colorways leading up to the retail debut of the Hyperdunk. One of those limited products is the Hyperdunk 2015.
The Hyperdunk 2015 will continue this tribute to the original concept shoe by borrowing some of the iconic coloring that made the shoes so striking. The upper of the Hyperdunk 2015 features the same matte grey and white colors that appeared on the original. It also features the grey and teal speckled midsole that jumped off Marty McFly’s original footwear, as well as glow in the dark panels that give the shoe a futuristic feel.
Additionally the Hyperdunk 2015 will feature call outs to the film including graphics from McFly’s hover board on the sock liner and a few more subtle references for people to discover on their own.
Consumers will be able to find the Hyperdunk 2015 at Nike House of Hoops (in NYC) as well as Niketown and other select Nike retailers.
