The Home Run Derby Gets Artsy

Chris Mottram is in New York City where he will be blogging from the 2008 MLB All-Star Game. Follow all of his posts throughout the week.

If you’re a big fan of art and stuff, then you’ll appreciate this. If you’re not, well then feel free to mock away. Here is what the bases, homeplate and rubber will look like on the field at Yankee Stadium tonight during the Home Run Derby:

They were designed by Fazzino, who specializes in 3-D pop art, which basically means most of his stuff is pretty trippy, man. At the FanFest, my traveling mate spent $175 on a 5x7 rendering of Yankee Stadium by this dude, so you know he must be good.

And a quick programming note: We're off to Yankee Stadium now for the pre-derby madness (not sure what that means, exactly), and then the Derby itself. I should have some more stuff up tonight, and definitely tomorrow morning.

O+A had a good idea, in having the players hit from either A) the Statue of Liberty or ) off a skyscraper into Central Park.

The amount of money Schrages continues to throw away is staggering. Speaking of, please construct a photo essay-style post detailing his haul from Fanfest.

Now I know why Shawn bought an extra return plane ticket: memorabilia.
