Quit Hitting Yourself, Geoff

The great Maple Bat Controversy of 2008 rages on this morning after Philly’s Geoff Jenkins managed to hit himself in the shoulder blade area yesterday after his bat snapped:

Luckily for Jenkins, he suffered only a bruised shoulder. But his manager, Charlie Manuel, fears that it’s only a matter of time before someone suffers a far more severe fate:
"I see a lot of bats fly around," he said. "I think eventually you'll definitely see an injury."
You think we’ll see these broken bats cause an injury at some point, do ya Charlie? You mean like, say, the Pirates coach who took one off the face in May and required stitches? Or the umpire who was smacked in the noggin by broken maple last month, resulting in a concussion?

Nah, neither of those are nearly severe enough to qualify as an “injury.”
