Terry Francona Has an Excellent Understanding of Our Country’s Bill of Rights

Over the weekend, amidst the latest episode of Manny vs. the Red Sox, manager Terry Francona was asked which is more difficult, dealing with Manny or dealing with his 14-year-old daughter. His response was puzzling:
"I plead the eighth - seventh, eighth, ninth, whatever."
So, in other words, Terry would like to exercise his inherent rights as an American citizen for a civil trial by a jury of his peers and/or his protection from cruel and unusual punishment and/or the protection of his basic rights not enumerated in the Constitution and/or “whatever.”

I suppose maybe the Eighth Amendment would apply here – the bit about cruel and unusual punishment – but the other two are really confusing. Perhaps, Terry just didn’t pay close enough attention in first grade civics class. I mean, there are 10 WHOLE AMENDMENTS in the Bill of Rights! Geez, it’s so confusing. Never fear, Terry, Tron Carter is here to assist you after the jump.
