Baseballs Take Decisive Strategical Advantage in Their War Against Faces

Here is Royals’ Mitch Maier taking a fastball off the face last night, brought to you by Matchbox 20, the official music of pitching high and tight:

Not surprisingly, Maier did not walk away from this unscathed. X-rays revealed three broken bones below his right eye. The pitcher, Zack Jackson, clams he was “trying to throw a cutter down and away,” but, at the last moment before he released the ball, he realized Wednesday is opposite day, duh.
