Great Britain Continues Their Grand Tradition of Olympic Success, Wankery

Australia has a well-known tourism slogan: "Where the bloody hell are you?" Great Britain, in addition to being the original colonizer of Australia and its onetime ruler, has a well-known tradition of mockery, gloating and general wankery. (Remember: same fanbase that, when they beat Germany in soccer, sings "THREEEE-NILLLLL" a reference to the game and their prior two victories, World Wars I and II.)

The two items met in a marriage of taunt, display, and outright nose-thumbing reminding us that while we may have inherited their language, legal system, and large chunks of their culture, we can't compete with the British on the trash-talk front. The paper of (sketchy) record, The Sun, hired trucks to parade signs around both London and Sydney reading "GB: 19, AUS: 14. WHERE THE BLOODY HELL WERE YOU?"

Both countries were topped by Russia, who had 23 gold medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics, and who plans on celebrating by invading Georgia again just for the hell of it.

Guuuuhhhhhhhhhhh ……….

Yes, congratulations Britain – for the first time in twenty four years you’ve won more Olympic events than a country with a third of your population and half of your GDP.  Hope that makes you feel better.  In the meantime we’ll get back to kicking your arse at cricket and rugby, thanks.
