Via FanHouse, the New York Times slips the bid Mark Cuban has entered in the Cubbies sweepstakes into a story about how Bud Selig already hates Cuban: $1.3 billion. Further, the Grey Lady's Richard Sandomir indicates there have been four other bids in excess of $1 billion, and that highest bids don't always win.Cuban: “If there’s a hooker you want, it all comes down to price, right? And I think that’s a better analogy.”More like "hilarious choice of words." While hardly a Cuban fan, I remain indignant of the idea that anyone aware of the names "George Steinbrenner" and "Marge Schott" could argue about the sanctity of MLB ownership.
Patrick: “So the Cubs are your hooker?”
Cuban: “Well, yes, bad choice of words.”

Don’t forget Carl Pohlad. Schott, Steinbrenner and Cuban may be "irritatingly human" but none of them have tried to eliminate their own teams. For all of his buffoonery, Cuban would be an enthusiastic owner who’d work hard to field a good (and marketable team). He may give the commisioner heartburn, but Bud’s had worse. I’m sure he can survive an owner like Cuban.

I’ve been rooting for Cuban to be the winning bidder right from the get go.
Baseball needs to get out of it’s fuddy duddy stage and start accepting owners like Cuban. And who really gives a rats ass what Selig thinks? This guys done some good things as Commisioner, but it’s time to move on.

You gotta know that Cuban is gonna be complaining about revenue if he ends up buying the Cubs. When he pays 1.3 billion for the loveable losers, then says he wants to make more money .ie. parking and concessions, what is the fan gonna say when his ticket goes up $6.00.Sometime soon they are gonne need to replace the crumbling hulk.He has some contracts to renew. The guy is gonna want more money out of us fans.I gotta wonder how good a deal it is to have Mark Cuban buy the Cubs.We might need to rethink about wishing Cuban to buy the small bears.

I wonder if he will run out on the field like he didi the BB court when something happens. Also if he will sit on the side and harass the SORRY umps. He has a lot downside with some upside. He will fit in with most other owners because they are an elite group only within their own minds. I feel for the Cubs.

I have to think Cuban is a better bet to buy the Cubs than some of these other guys. For one thing, Cuban is a true sports fan, whereas these other guys are probably just looking to buy the team as a tax write off.
Cuban would be a hands on owner, willing to sink all kinds of money into the team. The other groups would probably look to cut payroll and not put any upgrades into Wrigley Field.
Cuban as an owner would be a risk, no doubt, but in the long haul he’d be good for baseball.

Major league baseball(Bud Selig)doesn’t want Chicago to have a winner otherwise there wouldn’t be a part owner of the Brewers trying to buy the Cubs.Isn’t that a conflict of interest.I hope when he is not awarded the franchise that Cuban sues major league baseball(Bud Selig) for collusion.

You know I not a fan of Cuban but he does a pretty good job with the Mavs, and I believe he’d do a good job with any team he had because he is enthusiastic about he ventures unlike other owners.

Agree with most of these comments. Cuban might be an a**hole, but I think he’ll do what’s best for the Cubs. The dude has VERY deep pockets. And and even deeper ego. If the Cubs don’t manage to do it this year, imagine how big his head will swell if they do it next year under his ownership? That’s a challenge he won’t be able to resist.
