S.F. Decides They Want Bonds Around, After All

The Giants are throwing a little party to celebrate their 50th year in San Francisco, and they’re inviting all the organization’s best outfielders on down. Including Barry Lamar:
"We invited all the outfielders who played a certain number of games. He definitely was invited," team vice president for communications Staci Slaughter said, according to the report. "We would love for him to come. He was definitely a big part of this organization."

Slaughter said Bonds has yet to respond to the invitation, the newspaper reported. Major League Baseball's all-time home run king has not made a public appearance at AT&T Park since he was let go by the Giants following the 2007 season.

Bonds is a “big part of this organization,” you say? That’s funny, ‘cause if I'm not mistaken they took down a bunch of Bonds stuff back in March. Something about removing all tributes to his HR record:
The San Francisco Giants have now removed prominent tributes in the stadium to Barry Bonds, who has steroid allegations and perjury charges hanging over his head.

There are no "756" signs -- signifying the home run he hit to break Aaron's record -- anywhere in the park, in fact.

Ah, yes, that was it. Remember, Barry: The Giants love you, so long as they don’t need to be reminded on a daily basis that you were the only reason anyone cared about their organization over the past six years.

What an ugly situation.  You know the Giants feel obliged to invite him, you also know that’s probably the last place Barry wants to set be.

After the dust has settled a bit, it’s funny to think that Barry was in the best place to finish potentially one of the greatest baseball careers ever, following in the footsteps of two Giants legends, his father, Bobby Bonds, and Godfather, Willy Mays.  Unfortunately, his arrogance and severe lack of integrity changed the would be fairy tale course, and instead we have this situation unfolding in which the Giants don’t really want him at the party, but have to invite him, and he doesn’t want to be there, but has pressure to attend.

Talk about a downer.

If I was bonds I would tell them the heck with you I kept the stands packed and then I was shown the door.

Yeah they should have signed him in April when nobody else would… Even if the guy hit .200 with no power they should have signed him out of respect for what he has done for this organization.. He almost by himself kept this team winning 90+ games for 8 straight years.. They owe it to him..  But the fact is  he is better then anything we have now.. We give "nice guy" Rowand 10 million a year .. For whatrunning into a wall the guy is a decent player but .285 with 9 homeruns?? he gives you a homerun every 50 at bats… Randy Winn has 5 in 400+ ab’s hitting third, Lewis has 6 and Bowker leads the team with 9.. Bonds would give you 1 in 11 at bats that would give him about 40 for a full season.. again our team leader has 9… Lincecum should have 18 wins by not and look at Matt Cain, better numbers then Beckett over the past 2 years and the team is something like 17-40 when he starts…..We need Bonds .600 slugging/500 obp now more then ever. If im him I don’t show up either, they took everything down in that park that had his name on it… What are they going to do keep signing "nice guys" like Zito, Winn and Rowand?? and let the Dodgers win every year and get the "clubhouse cancers" like Manny…

Bonds should definitely be invited and hopefully he will attend.  I think he will because Willie will be there as well.  You can’t have a Giants outfielders recognition and not have the 2nd greatest Giant of them all there.

He should have been invited and he should go. He had the entire town captivated by his home run chase and they were probably the only fans that would have been willing to support him. It was the best situation for him in baseball.

The Giants should kiss Barry were the sun doesn’t shine the way they treated him.

Barry should decline the invite.  Only stupid criminals return to the scene of the crime.

As a Giants fan who wanted to see the team rebuild as badly as anyone, I can honestly say the team would be better with his bat in the middle of the lineup right now.  They could trot Jose Castillo out to third base every day and still be in the hunt with their pitching if Bonds were in the mix.

I still wish that none of this negativity had come up – there is nothing wrong with fading away from professional sports at 44 years old, but it is what it is.

Heck, if they brought him back right now, even with the Dodgers getting Manny, I would bet on the Giants taking the division.

Like it or not – Barry Bonds is a part of Giant History.  He should be invited.  When celebrating history of a team, you need to celebrate the good and the bad. Teams are like people – and should be remembered worts and all.

Hey all you covert Dodger fans. I hate to break it to you, but your attempted lynching of a black man (Barry Bonds) didn’t work. You can scream "you suck" forever and it won’t change the fact that Barry Bonds is the greatest player in history. Dodger  brown nosers Plashcke and Olbermann can twist the truth ‘till it bleeds Dodger yellow and white. It won’t change the fact that the Barry Bonds Giants whipped your sorry backsides seven years in a row (‘97 to ’04). Hey, Dodger nation, racist nation! You can’t erase the above conspiracy to destroy a good man through your lies and distortions. If your case was any good, it wouldn’t be continually thrown back in your face. You really need to realize this! Your lie has failed. Barry Bonds has beaten you again!
