Chad Pennington: The Only Person Who's Unhappy That a Favre Trade Finally Went Down

To make room for Lord Favre, the Jets will be forced to cut or trade Chad Pennington today, thus marking an unceremonious end to Chad’s time as a Jet.

"It's a bittersweet moment for us," Tannenbaum said. "I have all the respect in the world for Chad as a person, as a player. We've accomplished a lot of good things with Chad ... He gave his heart and soul to this organization for a long, long time. I really appreciate everything he's done."
Pennington was to compete with Kellen Clemens for the starting job in New York, and now, well, he’d be happy just to have a job, anywhere. His time with the Jets will be remembered for the glimpses of his potential, but mostly for the injuries. He took over the starting job from Vinny T in ’02, lead the Jets to a division championship (with nine wins) and a first round playoff shutout of the Colts. From there, it was pretty much downhill.

He suffered a broken hand during the ’03 preseason, then, in ’04, the rotator cuff injuries starting popping up. Two surgeries and four years later, and he’s lost his job to No. 4. But hey, at least Chad got paid. He signed a seven year, $64.2 million deal in ’04, so he certainly made a little bit of loot outta the whole deal, despite not finishing out that contract. Plus, he has the satisfaction of having been the first and best QB taken in the 2000 draft. Well, aside from Marc Bulger. Oh, and Tom Brady.

So, to you Chad, the innocent bystander in this whole mess, we say good luck. We’d happily take you as our team’s third-string QB any day, friend.

I’m sure the Buccaneers could use another quarterback

I’d have no problem with him holding a clipboard for Eli. I’d like the David Carr Experiment to end as soon as possible, and that doesn’t leave a lot of experience behind the Super Bowl MVP.

Plus, the Jets would have to pay his salary, right?

Chad deserved better from the Jets. I hope he goes to a team that plays them and gets to start against them, giving Prima Donna Favre a good beating too.

The Vikes could still use an upgrade at QB….it wouldn’t surprise me if they signed Pennington to challenge Jackson and Frerotte. Pennington is just the guy to do that. He would also make a great second QB for almost any team.
