Brandon Marshall Catches Another Charge

Before the season, Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall was lucky enough to have his three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s code of conduct policy reduced to one game. Well, the news coming from Colorado today may mean Marshall will end up spending a few more games in time-out after all (via PFT):
The solicitor's office in Fulton County, Georgia has decided to press criminal charges against Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

The solicitor's office filed misdemeanor battery charges on September 10th of this year for an alleged incident on March 4th, 2008 in Atlanta.

The trial is set for November or December. The league doesn’t seem to be in the business of handing down suspensions mid-season, so if Marshall is gonna get a slap on the wrist from Roger Goodell for this latest charge, it would likely be in the form of more missed games at the start of next season.

No matter when, or if, another suspension comes, this pattern of flirting with the law has to be extremely troubling for the Broncos. Marshall is an absolute beast of a receiver, who, in just this third season, is already among the top 10 in the league. Last year, he had a 1,300 yard, 100-catch season, and in his first game of the year last Sunday, he had 18 catches (two shy of tying T.O.’s single-game record) for 166 yards and a touchdown.

If he’s charged with battery Goodell needs to suspend him asap and not wait until next season.  Marshall may be a solid WR, but he’s also a thug.

0 catches in game 1, 18 Catches in game 2, and 0 again for who knows how long.  He won’t be on my fnatasy team this week.  Tip:  You you want to play, stay out of trouble.

I’d be surprised if the league didn’t already know about the possibility of this March 4 incident turning into charges when the NFL reduced his suspension to one game.  It’s not like this incident just happened.  Nevertheless, this guy needs to clean up his behaviour or pay the price.

the league knew about this. it happened in March so I don’t see them taking any significant actions against him pending he still keeps out of trouble which he has since last March.

Hey, Donkey fans.  Where’s all the talk about Kelly’d DUI from yesterday?

by raiderid on Sep 18, 2008 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

Marshall should not be suspended until after the trial. Marshall’s suspension will be a greater punishment for him and the team while on the verge of the playoffs. Hopefully, both parties will wake up!

Clearly the DA fell victim to Marshall’s 18 catch performance in his fantasy league.  That’s why it took 6 months for charges to appear  :)

What a clown.

They definitely knew about this before hand. that was why he had three games. They reduced it partially because they could tack it back on later when it would hurt more IF he didn’t keep himself out of trouble. Lets see what happens between Now and Court. The question is will Goodell do anything this season or next. They’ll try to appeal and or delay it as long as The Team can.

The way he is going he could play 5 games and be more productive than most receivers this year.

This is old news…the timing sure is interesting though..it sounds like the DA is trying to make a name for himself…Im sure the league was already aware of this. Raider/Charger/Chief fans: Dont get your hopes up too high!!!

The incident itself is old news from March. The decision to proceed with the charges is new, though.

Wierd timing these charges being filed now less than a week after his reinstatement and reduced suspension.

Did he play at West Virginia?

by MrLaloosh on Sep 18, 2008 3:56 PM EDT reply actions

his suspension should have stayed three games and if found guilty add another three games even if they go to the playoffs… pacman lost a whole season vick is gone for three years…they suspended a coach for steroids to i think..so why be so easy on him???all of the players in this league need to understand thats why they makes this money to stay out of situations like this…

by OO7CHARGERS on Sep 18, 2008 4:27 PM EDT reply actions

Why dont they suspend him for 8 or 10 or 12 games??? If they factor in the beatdown he gave to Antonio Cromartie last week, maybe it will be a lifetime ban!!!!

by broncotis65 on Sep 18, 2008 5:11 PM EDT reply actions

HELLLOooo People…The man is a person with real life problems—STOP trying to play Commish and just respect him as a man whether he’s right or wrong..!

Fantasy implications are irrelevant—I use him in TSN Cap gamez but WHO cares?!?

The league probably considered this incident when they handed out the original suspension so probabaly won’t do anything unless he can’t keep his nose clean. I always thought the suspension seemd a bit much based on the other things  but now this makes more sense.

Brandon Marshall is ruining his career by pure stupidity.

Anyone else get the feeling the words role model and Brandon Marshall should never be used in the same sentence unless the word NOT is included?

by schuhbox on Sep 19, 2008 6:39 AM EDT reply actions

As much as I love watching Marshall play if he can’t keep out of trouble then he has got to go. Simple as that.

by chgibbs on Sep 19, 2008 9:34 AM EDT reply actions

This is old news. The charges were brought on the date of September 10, so why did all these media outlets wait until now to break this story? One, to add a little more controversy to the team and two because Marshall played outstanding last week so lets drag him down a little bit. The league knew about the incident, it was one of the reasons he was originally suspended. It won’t even go to court, he’ll plead out to no contest and go on his way. Had he gotten arrested again, a suspension should be coming, but because this is related to something that was already known about, nothing else will be done. Cute how the article  fails to mention that this is from his previous incident or that the league and team already knew about the situation.

Oh and that it came from Florio, a biased and obnoxious gas bag who is a waste of valuable space on this website.
