Jerry Manuel Believes the Rain When He Sees It

Shockingly, the Mets lost to the Phillies last night. No one could ever have seen that coming, just as no one could fathom the Phils making up the two games they trail the Mets in the NL East. There's another pair of games this weekend, of course, including a matinee today.

But Tropical Storm Hanna is pounding the Atlantic seaboard and moving north toward NYC. Tropical storms typically include rain, and baseball's not very fun in the rain. So plans have been made to reschedule today's game as a part of a split doubleheader on Sunday, should the rain in fact sneak in before the first pitch at 3:55 PM EST.

Mets manager Jerry Manuel thinks everyone's wasting their time, though.
"I don't trust the weather," Manuel said. "Everybody says it's going to rain and then the sun is shining. I'm telling you we're playing tomorrow."
In the face of overwhelming data to the contrary, Manuel sticks to his guns. That's conviction. That's grit. That's ... oh God, was that thunder? Where's my umbrella?! Aaah!

UPDATE: As expected, it is pouring in NYC. Double-header on Sunday. Manuel goes back to psychic school on Monday.
