Cub(s) Headed in the Wrong Direction

The Cubs have, at least temporarily, lost their way, dropping a half-dozen in a row. Via FanHouse, we learn their fearless leader Lou Piniella has also lost his way ... to Cincinnati.

Piniella and a fellow coach drove themselves from the CHI to the Great American Ball Park. They missed their turn in Toldedo and showed up in Cincinnati three hours late. The Cubbies then lost 10-2. The matters were probably unrelated.

Meanwhile, Carlos Zambrano hopes he can be Chicago's savior. Rich Harden is scheduled to start Wednesday in St. Louis, and Zambrano will start throwing in the next few days with hopes of pitching next weekend against the Astros. Z tempts fate by even discussing the concept of "health" as a Cubs pitcher.

"I promise the team and Cub fans I will work hard in the off-season and the rest of this season to [make] my shoulder strong," he said Friday. [...] "It's nothing to be worried about. I have to be strong and work hard for my shoulder."

Cubs fan, worry? Pssh, as if.
