Philly's Exotic Blitz Schemes Vanquish Vikes

Q: What's the only thing in football that Troy Aikman can conceivably and repeatedly call exotic? A: Philadelphia's blitz schemes, of course. Boss Mottram created the above image to show how the Eagles were able to confound and defeat Minnesota this evening to the tune of a 26-14 final score.

The Vikings did just fine on the ground, with Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor getting more rushes than a tax preparer on April 14. But as the game wore on and Philadelphia clung to a tenuous two-point lead through the second half, Minnesota had to rely on Tarvaris Jackson more and more. And Jackson couldn't get anything going against Brian Dawkins, Asante Samuels or Bambi. Minnesota had three plays of greater than 10 yards in the fourth, and one came on a dubious personal foul called against Philly LB Akeem Jordan.

The Vikings defense bottled up Brian Westbrook for 3-1/2 quarters, before the flickering star broke off an absurd 71-yard TD run off a screen pass. The play should have been a two-yard pick-up. The Vikings missed about 20 tackles. (Yeah, some Vikings missed Westbrook twice.) Philly would probably rather Westbrook make an early appearance in full nova form next week in the Meadowlands.
