Final: No. 5 Virginia Tech Dominates Boston College, 48-14

Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Tyrod Taylor threw a pair of touchdown passes and Ryan Williams ran for 159 yards with a score, as fifth-ranked Virginia Tech rolled to a 48-14 Homecoming victory over Boston College at Lane Stadium.

Taylor helped the Hokies (5-1, 3-0 ACC) build a 34-0 lead in the first half and played only midway through the third quarter. He completed 7-of-10 passes for 126 yards and ran for just nine yards on six carries.

Williams, who entered the day averaging 115 yards per game on the ground, had more than that by halftime. He led a rushing attack that racked up 235 yards.

The Hokies have now won five straight since a season-opening loss to Alabama and have captured 12 in a row at home. The last team to leave Lane Stadium with a win was Boston College in 2007, but the Eagles posed no threat Saturday.

Boston College (4-2, 2-2) was coming off consecutive home victories over Wake Forest and Florida State after a conference-opening loss at Clemson. The Eagles, though, mustered just three yards of offense in the first half Saturday and didn't score until the fourth quarter.

After BC starter Dave Shinskie completed only 1-of-12 passes for four yards with a pair of interceptions, Michael Marscovetra threw for 114 yards and two scores. Montel Harris ran for just 43 yards on 11 carries in defeat.

These teams met for the ACC Championship the last two years, with Virginia Tech winning both, but Boston College had won the last three regular-season meetings.

That streak ended with a thud on Saturday.

BC's problems began with the opening kickoff, which went out of bounds and gave the Hokies the ball at their own 40. They managed to move far enough for a 31-yard field goal from Matt Waldron for a 3-0 lead.

The Hokies took their second possession 68 yards on 11 plays for the first touchdown of the game, as Taylor found Danny Coale with a 24-yard scoring pass. Williams ran four times for 14 yards and caught a 23-yard pass to convert a 3rd-and-8 to key the series.

Williams then finished off a 74-yard march with a one-yard touchdown run 30 seconds into the second quarter to give the Hokies a 17-0 cushion. His 31-yard carry on the prior play set up the score.

Two big-play touchdowns followed for Tech. Taylor hit Jarrett Boykin with a 41-yard touchdown pass on the first play after a BC punt. The Hokies were forced to punt on their next possession, but the defense got into the act on the first play after the kick when Rashad Carmichael picked off a Shinskie pass and raced 22 yards along the sideline untouched for a 31-0 margin with 8:12 to play in the opening half.

Waldron missed a 49-yard field goal try a few minutes later, but after another Tech interception -- this one by Stephan Virgil -- Waldron connected from 40 yards away with 1:11 remaining before the break.

The Hokies completely dominated the opening 30 minutes. Tech had 12 first downs to none for BC and outgained the Eagles 293-3.

BC more than doubled its first-half total on its first play of the second quarter when Harris ran for eight yards. He followed with a 15-yard run and a facemask penalty on the play tacked on 15 more, but the Hokies woke up and pushed the Eagles backward from there. Two offensive penalties and a sack again forced a punt.

The Hokies didn't manage any offensive threats in the third quarter, and the Eagles finally reached the end zone on a 48-yard strike from Marscovetra to Colin Larmond Jr.

On Virginia Tech's first offensive play after the kickoff, Ju-Ju Clayton found Marcus Davis behind the BC defense for an 80-yard touchdown to make it 41-7. The Eagles then fumbled on their next offensive play, leading to a one-yard touchdown run for David Wilson.

Marscovetra completed an 80-yard drive with a one-yard scoring toss to Lars Anderson in the final minute to account for the final margin.

Virginia Tech improved to 59-19-4 all-time on Homecoming...BC finished with 163 total yards, while Tech compiled 441...The Eagles were just 1-for-13 on third down...Carmichael recorded his third interception of the season, while Virgil notched his seventh career interception, tops among active Hokies...The Hokies lead the all-time series, 12-6...Virginia Tech visits Georgia Tech next Saturday, while Boston College hosts North Carolina State.
