How Much Can Tauscher Help?

SB Nation’s Packers blog, Acme Packing Company, likes the addition of Mark Tauscher but was really hoping that current tackle Allen Barbre would settle into the position this season. But giving into reality – Barbre wasn’t getting the job done – the blog now wonders how soon Taushcer can play, and does he hold any grudges against Packers management?

I have a few questions: will he start right away? There’s no question that they brought Tauscher back in order to replace Allen Barbre, but will he be ready by next Sunday against the Lions? And if he’s ready, exactly how effective will he be?

Somewhat less urgent, but no less important: will Tauscher hold a grudge against management for not signing him in good faith that his rehab would be complete by October? Or does he recognize that his age (32) and injury (ACL tear) were two huge red flags that kept him on the free agent market for the entire offseason, preseason, and regular season to date?

Tauscher’s signing does answer one question, however. It shows us that Ted Thompson and the rest of the management will not let Aaron Rodgers get killed without at least trying other options.

Packers Bring Back Mark Tauscher

Terms of the deal haven't been disclosed yet, but Tauscher, who had been sitting without a team as a free agent, will help the Packers fix their biggest problem, the offensive line. Aaron Rodgers is getting knocked around like a pinata as injuries ravaged the line leading to poor play.

Tauscher should be working at right tackle; the Packers expect left tackle Chad Clifton back this week from ankle injury.

It was a move the Pack had to make, or Aaron Rodgers was not going to last the entire season.
