Stephon Marbury Will Reportedly Sit Out 2009-10 Season

The New York Post reports that free agent Stephon Marbury will sit out the 2009-10 season, but plans on playing in 2010-11. Via Fox Sports:

Marbury, unsigned as a free agent this summer after turning down the Boston Celtics' offer of $1.3 million, vows he will play again.

"I'm resting, doing what Michael Jordan did, enjoy life, do things I haven't done in 16 years, keep building my empire," Marbury told the newspaper. "I wasn't going to Boston for that money. It was a prudent business decision to take off this year."

Marbury declined to re-sign with the Boston Celtics, who he played for during the 2008-09 campaign. Previously, the most likely candidates to sign Marbury this season were the Washington Wizards and a number of European teams, so it's possible that he's made this decision as a result of a lack of options. If he does return for the 2010-11 season, he will still only be 33 years old.
