Clifton's Brief Return Doesn't Help Packers O-Line

Once left tackle Chad Clifton got back in the starting line up, the Packers offensive line troubles were supposed to be solved. Clifton's return Sunday against the Detroit Lions, didn't amount to much of a confidence booster, however, for a line that has struggled to protect Aaron Rodgers thus far this season.

While the Packers did win 26-0, Rodgers was sacked five times and Clifton once again finds himself on the injury report after aggravating his right ankle in the third quarter.

It's up for debate whether Clifton was really ready to return. He appeared slow on pass protection and was called for four penalties - two on back-to-back plays.

Clifton twice was called for illegal formation because the officials thought he wasn’t lined up properly.

"He’s absolutely frustrated, but it’s a situation where it’s a judgment call by the referee," Colledge said of the infractions. "He felt Chad wasn’t far enough on the ball. The thing with Chad, he plays in an upright stance when he’s in a two-point and he gets his shoulders back, which is great. He’s been doing it for 10 years, but it’s something they’re emphasizing this year and he has to find a way to make an adjustment. And he will."

Rookie T.J. Lang filled in for Clifton after went down in Sunday's contest.
