Riley Cote Brings the Pain, This Time for Good

It's always a joy to see hockey brawlers as fairly rounded individuals. Even if most of their interests involve the infliction of pain in some form, be it practicing MMA fights or bringing a tattoo needle down on someone's skin. Still, definitely shows the guy is more than one dimensional.

Besides, anyone versed in violence willing to put his mark on you with something other than his teeth, like teammate Scott Hartnell might, has to be given some due. Especially when he's bringing proceeds to charity. Cote recently took his act to The Preston and Steve Show on 93.3 WMMR, inking the Flyers logo on a listener in studio. Since then, he's received scads of requests for tattoos. He told the Philadelphia Daily News that he's considering auctioning one off in the near future to benefit a charity, mostly likely the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, to which he donated $27,000 earlier this month. His sister was diagnosed with MS in 2000.

So even as he's visited horrible pain on others on the ice, he's alleviating it for those in dire straights off it. Which is probably at least a karmic wash.

Nice! I love it, Cote! Too bad I’m a Pens fan or I’d have a bid in for your next job! As far as a Karmic wash, I’d say he’s got a little in the bank…
