Witness one of Javale McGee’s draft profiles from two years ago (sic, sic, sic):
He blockshots like Tyson Chandler and has a 33 inch vertical jump and dunks like Michael Jordan, as a seven-footer. He can face the basket and create off the dribble like an athletic Dirk. The intriguing question that baffles scouts is not is he a pro? But how good of a pro will he become.
That was written by his mother… As a result, and also owing to his phenomenally awkward frame, it’s been difficult to take Javale McGee seriously as a pro. He’s sort of a running joke. Hence the semi-sarcastic “Epic Vale” nickname.
But before you giggle, check out this sequence from two nights ago:
Dare I say… Jordan with a hint of ’90s Shaq? Runs the floor like a more athletic Lebron? Yup.
