Earlier today, this report emerged out of Boston:
Former Celtic Kevin McHale has found new employment, joining Ernie Johnson and Chris Webber on NBA TV’s Fan Night on Tuesday, replacing former Celtic Gary Payton. McHale was removed as coach/GM of the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. NBA TV spends the entire evening reviewing highlights and giving analysis of Tuesday’s games.
First off, describing Gary Payton as a “former Celtic” is blasphemy. But even worse, this means that the marvelous pairing of Chris Webber and Gary Payton has been—temporarily, at least—disbanded. For shame!
In case you never got a chance to see their brilliance on TNT or NBA TV, here are some of their “Greatest Hits”:
Kevin McHale’s wit is legendary and should offer a passable consolation, but there’s no way he’ll top that impromptu Jabbawockeez performance.

Completely disagree, besides the Celtics/Payton blasphemy bit.
Payton was terrible. If I was laughing while him and C-Webb were on the TV, I was laughing AT them, not WITH them. It was a dumber, poorly moderated version of Inside The NBA. C-Webb was a thousand times better when he was on Inside. Maybe it’s just me, but I like at least a fair amount of actual ANALYSIS on these sorts of shows.
I’m very excited for this show now. EJ has replaced Ahmad, McHale has replaced Payton, everything is right with the world. Woo-hoo!
