Big Ten Football With A Side Of Subtle Racism

While Ohio State struggles with Minnesota in a game that has officially been elevated to Dog Fight Status, ESPN’s commentators just had a, um, questionable exchange in the booth on live television.

Between plays, ESPN did a promo for NASCAR and showed the top five in points standings. Which prompted this:

Chris Spielman: Where’s Juan Pablo Montoya?

Bob Griese: [Laughs] He’s out havin’ a taco!

Because, you know, Colombians just can’t get enough Mexican cuisine.

This is ignorance NOT racism

You guys know what racism is, right? Please explain to me how Bob Griese is (subtly) prejudiced against Colombian people.

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
