Everyone wants to be an NBA GM. You, me, Bill Simmons. Everyone! It would be a great job, there’s no denying that. So why not Charles Barkley, too?
“I think that it’d be fun to try to build my own team,” Barkley said at a luncheon, joined by studio partners Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson. "We talk about it all the time. Sometimes we say, ‘What is that guy doing? Why did he draft that guy? Why did he make a trade for that guy?’
“Some of these guys have done a bad job, plain and simple.”
The only problem with this, at least where Barkley’s personal enjoyment is concerned, is that “Being Charles Barkley” is one of the few jobs in the world better than “Being an NBA GM.” This would be a demotion. He’d have to, like, work; his job wouldn’t consist of saying crazy things on television and then going to casinos immediately afterward. Gross, right?
