Taylor Mays likes heads. Sometimes he does try to collect them somewhat forcefully, but he’s a creature of his passions.
The emerging debate over concussions has swept up Mays and his hobby, unfortunately. As always, you can feel free to blame Notre Dame, or in this case Congressman Dan Lungren®, an ND alum who cited Mays’ helmet-popping hit on Irish receiver Robby Paris during a hearing on head injuries in the NFL.
Mays is hoping this wrong kind of attention gets him the right kind of attention.
“Maybe [President] Obama will give me a call,” he said, chuckling. “I don’t have any bad intentions. I don’t know how it could get that far but that’s just the reality of the situation.”
That’s looking on the upside. Congress now has time to do this, having already won the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, balanced the budget, and figured out health care. Go Congress!
