Well after Elton Brand arrived in Philadelphia to much fanfare last season he, uh… blew out his ACL, and the 76ers were actually better without him. And while Philly hopes he’ll improve this year, last night wasn’t much better.
From Basketbawful:
Elton looked just as bad as he did in the games he actually appeared in last year, scoring only 8 points on 2-for-7 shooting to go with 6 boards. For all the bad luck of the Clippers, it now appears that Brand’s backstabbing farewell in free agency was actually a good thing.
Or, as SBN’s Sixers blog, Liberty Ballers, put it:
Elton Brand … looked slightly below-average, which is better than I expected. I expected him to come out and look like my grandpa.
And, in case you were wondering, Brand’s due to make $15 million this year. And $16 million next year. And 17, the next. And finally, $18 million in 2013. So… Yeah. That’s a decision that Sixers GM Ed Stefanski would like to have back.
UPDATE: Whatever happens to Brand on the Sixers, this e-mail exchange was amazing.
