Because that's always the best way to energize a lagging fan base in the midst of a decade or so of horrid football. Were I a Lions fan, I'd be thankful for the blackout. With the team off the airwaves, the temptation to torture oneself is completely removed.
The sad part is that these Lions are actually not all that abysmal, at least in comparison to last year's version. There is some young talent worth watching there. But because fans don't want to pay exorbitantly to enjoy that marginal talent, they won't be able to enjoy it at all. Sigh.
