Mike Leach Has Something to Say About His Players' Girlfriends

Ah, Mike Leach, ever the font of ridiculous quotes, served up another doozy in the wake of Texas Tech's defense on Saturday getting gashed by Texas A&M for for 52 points and 321 rushing yards.

"As coaches, we failed to make our coaching points more compelling than their fat little girlfriends," said Leach. "For one thing, their fat little girlfriends are telling them what they want to hear, which is 'how great you are' and 'how easy this is going to be.'"

Naturally, a great body identity sensitivity freakout ensued, to which Leach extended a deaf ear.

Of course, the blame for motivation always falls squarely on the coaches. Chances are, the players aren't relying on their girlfriends, fat or no, to inform them about the difficulty of the upcoming opponent. And even if they are, it's the coaches' job to disabuse them of that idea. Unless he wants to blame the woman in his life for not getting him to do that.

I stopped paying attention to any of the crap that falls out of his mouth long ago.  He sounds like an idiot everytime he speaks.

Following Leach has been the highlight of moving to Texas, keep up the good work coach.

Hello kettle, meet the pot. Leach is not exactly Joe Abs, either. But at least he had the class and responsibility to blame some teenage girls after his team got pounded into interesting new shapes. Yep, things like that should never be pinned on the players or coaches. Better to abuse teenage girls that don’t scream at their boyfriends about how to execute a run blitz or make a sound tackle. Clearly coaching and motivating is their job.

How ironic that the only coach to come to Leach’s defense is the whale Mangino.

I hope some of those girlfriends gang up and pelt Leach with powdered doughnuts during his next presser. I think his speech makes him sound like he doesn’t have control of his players, and he is supposed to be the adult in this scenario. Would you see any of the coaches who have actually won national championships in recent years making a speech like that after a loss, blaming some girls and calling them fat? Are your players partying and carousing with chicks instead of being focused on their work? Then you and your staff have either not recruited quality young men or are not training them properly. Get a new message, Mike - and maybe get some lipo on that big double chin.
