Boston’s Glen “Big Baby” Davis is pudgy. Always has been. He was a superstar lineman in football before making waves on the hardwood. And even though he made the transition to basketball full-time once he hit college, he’s still retained the doughy frame of a behemoth offensive lineman… Until now.
(Duh duh duh!)
Over the summer Big Baby had himself a crash course in hand-to-hand, foot-to-face, Kimbo-style combat. That’s right, according to the Boston Herald, Davis trained with Mixed Martial Arts techniques:
"I kind of felt like, ‘Oh man, basketball is hard,’ but when you’re training for a fight, you have to go to a whole different level. The training is so extreme. I thought I trained hard playing basketball, but when you’re doing mixed martial arts, you have to train even harder."
And it worked, too. SBN’s Celtics Blog points out that Big Baby’s gotten so much smaller and toned that his practice jerseys no longer fit his suddenly svelte frame. The lesson? You may not think MMA is a “real” sport, but when “real” athletes dabble, they get really tough, real quick.
