NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is reportedly weighing whether to punish Browns WR Braylon Edwards for his alleged altercation (read: punching Lebron’s friend in the face) the other night, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.
At issue is the fact that the NFL’s personal conduct guidelines not only lay out punishments for breaking the law, but also prescribe players to essentially act in a manner that reflects well on the league; think of it as a “no bad headlines clause”.
While Goodell has been lenient with most first-time offenders, Edwards has a more complicated past. In the past year he was fined for driving 120 mph, and was drinking with teammate Donte Stallworth the night Stallworth struck and killed a pedestrian with his car. It’s not clear whether Goodell will consider those incidents previous offenses or not.
Meanwhile, Mark McManamon of the Akron Beacon Journal has a different punishment in mind for Edwards: go sign with the Lions if he can’t handle playing in Lebron’s shadow. Ouch.
Don’t be smackin’ one of LeBron’s friends, or The King will let you hear about it:
"I’ve never crossed paths with Braylon before, but it seems like there’s a little jealousy going on with Braylon and me and my friends. I have no idea why," the Cavaliers superstar said after practice. "I’ve never said anything to Braylon at all. But for him to do that is very childish. My friend is 130 pounds. Seriously. It’s like hitting one of my kids. It doesn’t make sense."
But it’s cool, ’cause Braylon tweeted this later: “I have no issue with LeBron … I respect and admire him.” Oh, well that changes everything.
In one corner you have a NBA superstar, one of the most popular athletes in the world, someone who has been dubbed, "The Chosen One." In the other corner, you have a wide receiver who was kinda good for a year but now is best known for a severe case of the drops. It's LeBron James vs. Braylon Edwards: let's play the feud!

Oh, it's on.
Browns WR Braylon Edwards has been accused of assaulting a 28-year-old Cleveland man, Edward Givens, early this morning outside of View Ultralounge & Nightclub.
No charges have been pressed, but Givens -- an events promoter for a company that holds Sunday night parties at View -- did go to the hospital for what he described as a black eye and cut. He also told Cleveland.com the following:
"After the club closed, I was outside greeting and saying goodbye to people. Braylon comes up and started saying things, degrading me. He said if it wasn't for LeBron or the Four Horsemen, I wouldn't have what I have, nor would I be able to get girls. Everyone knows Braylon has a problem with LeBron. So I had to speak up for myself. The conversation started to escalate. As some of his teammates started to pull him back, he punched me. I have a black eye and a cut. I'm not a violent guy.
"As long as I've known Braylon, I've allowed him and his friends to come into our events free of charge. Whatever jealousy he has with LeBron, he felt he needed to take it out on me."
Braylon Edwards Charged With Assault For Incident With Lebron's Friend
The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports that Jets WR Braylon Edwards will be charged with misdemeanor assault for his role in the alleged altercation between himself and Lebron James’ friend last month in Cleveland.
It is unclear whether the NFL league office will pursue any disciplinary action against Edwards, though he faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if he is convicted.
