BYU's Bronco Mendenhall To Cougar Fans: Shut Up, Dummies

Mountain West Connection has the audio clip so you can get a full understanding of what BYU Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall was saying at his presser.

Mendenhall starts off saying the expectations are high, which means the fans want a good team (so far, so good).  Then, he says that the fans are not sophisticated enough to understand what is going on during the game. (uh-oh).  Then says "the normal person can easily criticize" (Danger...Danger Will Mendenhall...).  Finally, there's the money shot:

"The level of criticism usually matches the level of education."

As MWC points out, you COULD read into it that he's saying a high level of criticism means that person is smart, but I think we can all agree that's not what he's saying.  He's calling his own fans a collection of yelling morons.

Expect the caravan to the Las Vegas Bowl to be a little lighter this December.

Finally a Coach who speaks the truth.

Bronco is right, most football fans are no nothing blowhards. If you don’t believe me just start surfing the different NFL and college SB sites and read the FanPosts and comments. I would be embarrassed if I was a fan of some of those teams. One week they are thumping their chests and bragging about winning the championship, the next week they want to fire the coach and bench half the team. Ridiculous.

I’ll include myself in that group as there is more about football that I don’t know than I know. Fortunately, I know enough to know that. Most fans don’t.

Well

I know the coaches know at least 10 fold more then fans, but fans should be able to criticize if play is not up to their standards.
