According to the Associated Press, a city official would like the PGA Tour to kindly remind Michael Jordan that when he serves as an assistant to Fred Couples in the upcoming President’s cup, he’ll do so while abstaining from smoking his famous cigars:
↵↵↵“I’ve already sent an e-mail to the PGA Tour director,” Recreation and Park general manager Phil Ginsburg told the newspaper. “It was a gentle nudge reminding them that smoking is illegal and that we would appreciate their support.”
↵
Doesn’t this defeat the purpose of Jordan’s presence, though? I mean, granted, I’ll always defer to the expertise and hilarity of all Parks and Recreation officials. But Jordan as superficial--yet nonetheless intimidating--figurehead just has to include him coolly puffing away on a cigar, right?
↵Otherwise, where’s the swagger? Where’s the mysterious cool? He’ll just be that old guy off to the side, trying to coax a horrified Fred Couples into gambling on every hole.
