SBN’s Clips Nation comes through with a fantastic discussion of nicknames, today. And The dearth of creativity in naming today’s superstars is actually pretty galling, when you think about it. My own personal crusade:
I hate when people call Adrian Peterson “A-P” instead of his true nickname, “A-D.” A and P are his initials, you see. So, uh… therein lies the connection. Crazy, right?
On the other hand, “A-D” stands for “All Day,” which has been his nickname for years, and has a significantly higher badassery rating. Alas, it seems we’ve grown to settling for names that are easy-to-use, easy-to-understand, and AD is but one example of our demise. For shame.
End of lamest crusade ever. But really, check out Clips Nation’s post, as it’s very well done. And for what it’s worth, “Blake Superior” for Blake Griffin is excellent, as is “Cash” Gordon for Eric Gordon.
