Happ Insists He Can Pitch Game 3, if Needed

From Philly.com:

J.A. Happ walked into his manager’s office after yesterday’s game and insisted he could pitch tomorrow, despite the line drive that bruised his leg in the seventh inning.

“I’m OK,” he told Charlie Manuel.

“We’ll talk about it tomorrow,” Manuel said. […]

“It was just one of those things where right after it happens, you don’t have strength in it,” he said. “If I had [another] four or five minutes, it would not have been an issue.”

Manuel will have to decide today on who will start Game 3 tomorrow in Denver, where the temperature is expected to be in the 20’s. His choices are Happ, Joe Blanton and Pedro Martinez. Apparently, he’s leaning toward Blanton or Pedro.

Happ Has Bruised Leg

Jayson Stark tweets that Happ has a contusion on his left leg:

Phillies report that J.A. Happ just has a contusion (i.e. bruise) on the "lower left leg." X Rays negative

That's excellent news for Charlie Manuel, who will definitely need the rookie lefty as this series moves along. We will keep you update on Happ's status as we learn more.

J.A. Happ Leaves NLDS Game 2 With Injury

In the 7th inning of Game 2 of the NLDS, Rookie of the Year candidate and potential Game 3 or 4 starting pitcher J.A. Happ came into the game in relief and promptly took a pitch off of his knee. Happ tried to go but Phillies manager Charlie Manuel removed him from the game. We will have more as this develops.
